Scratchers are wear items and get drug along the ground at speed for miles and miles on end, eventually they will wear out or break due to a catch/snag/impact of who-knows-what while rippin' down the trail and thru the woods.  The scratchers were designed with this in mind, not only to withstand this as much as possible, but also to be inexpensive to replace when the inevitable happens!  Grab a set and throw 'em in the toolbox as a spare, and keep on riding!
